Winter beach getaway for the family to Europe? Algarve luxury resort caters to kids with winter escape packages
Martinhal Beach Resort & Hotel, in Sagres, Portugal, has new “Active Winter” packages with sun, surf, biking, hiking, windsurf and golf built in – and all of that in Europe. The Western Algarve is known for its sun and mild temperatures all winter long. With prices from about $231 per night (max. 2 adults, 1 child up to 12 and other up to 2 years), an Active Winter 5 Days package includes 4 nights in a Beach Room with buffet breakfast, one meal per day (lunch or dinner with 3 course menu, drinks are not included), one hour at the tennis court per day (equipment included) and Wi-Fi throughout the resort. Now that’s a deal, and Portugal is just 5 hours from the US.

Winter break - Enjoy your holidays and New Year’s Eve in the sparkling Algarve
Martinhal Beach Resort & Hotel, located in Sagres in the Portuguese region of Algarve, has all the elements for an adventure-filled winter holiday break for you to enjoy the holidays, and do something unique.
Guests can experience Martinhal’s luxury Christmas Eve Dinner and a sumptuous Christmas day brunch buffet at the restaurant overlooking Martinhal Bay and Porto de Baleeira. Meal times will be about family with a special festive menu for children as well as a Kids’ Club responsible for entertaining them while parents enjoy both their family and time together as a couple.
If you prefer to have your private Christmas party in your house, Martinhal provides a takeaway service with turkey and trimmings, Christmas crackers, special napkins and a bottle of Portuguese sparkling wine.
Prices for 7-night stay with Christmas dinner and Christmas day brunch included at $151 per adult per night in a Hotel Room for a family of 2 adults, one child under 12 and a baby. This represents a discount of 29% on normal prices. Winter packages for 4 nights also available with supplements. Various other larger accommodation available at prices to suit the family market.
To celebrate New Year’s Eve, the gala dinner offers live music a gourmet dinner, cocktails and canapés. The menu includes the traditional Portuguese kale soup, “caldo verde”, after midnight, as well as wines, soft drinks and water. The kids will have their own party in the Kid’s Entertainment area. On the first day of the year start the day with the New Year’s Day brunch.
Prices for New Year’s Eve at Hotel Martinhal range from $204 per adult, per night, and for the Martinhal Village prices go from $287 per adult, per night.

Mark your calendars: October 26th! First ever Triathlon at Martinhal Resort
The 5 star Martinhal Beach Resort & Hotel will be hosting its first ever Martinhal Triathlon on October 26. Teaming up with Algarve Triathlons, the competition will take place in a scenery surrounded by hectares of Natural Parks, national monuments, cliffs and beaches.
The triathlon aims to give an amazing ride trough Sagres and to take participants to “Finisterra” – the end of the world as the Europeans though it until the 1400s.
Participants can choose from the Sprint Triathlon (half mile swim in the sea, 20km bike and 5krun) or the Olympic Triathlon (9 miles swim in the sea, 40km bike and 10 km run).
The sea swimming will take place at Martinhal Beach while the run will take place around the resort. The bicycle route will take participants through the charming fishing village of Sagres along a route past the historical Fortress of Sagres, Fort of Beliche, to the lighthouse at the Cape of St. Vincent – located at the Southwestern-most point in Europe.
Participation can be individual or team/relay. Details can be found on www.martinhaltriathlon.com. All the proceeds for the participation in the Triathlon will go to NECI - a local charity based in the western Algarve.
To make the best of this experience, Martinhal Beach Resort offers different packages from 1 night (20% discount on Martinhal’s best available rate), 3 days/2 nights (from $122 per person/per night) or 5 days/4nights ($166 per person/per night).
