KURUMBA MALDIVES CELEBRATES WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY
Industry: Hotels

Kurumba Maldives is set on a tropical island in the North Male’ atoll conveniently a brief 10 minute speed boat ride away from the airport. Dotted with coconut trees that are the island’s namesake, Kurumba was the first private island resort in the Maldives. Lush tropical gardens, white sandy beaches and a vibrant house reef are the hallmarks of this classic Maldivian resort.

(TRAVPR.COM) MALDIVES - July 31st, 2014 - On Thursday 5th of June Kurumba Maldives’ team and guests joined for the celebration of World Environment Day. Volunteers had the opportunity to help protect the natural surroundings of Vihamanfushi Island and increase their own environmental awareness.

Approximately 35 guests and 65 staff members volunteered their time and effort to ensure the success of this initiative. The main task on the agenda was tree planting. Kurumba’s gardeners carefully prepared young trees and grounds for this mission. Wearing special t-shirts created for this event, and in high spirits the group of volunteers planted, in total, one hundred trees all around the island.

The international theme for the 2014 World Environment Day was “Raise Your Voice, Not The Sea Level”, which is a sensitive and relevant topic for all islands around the world, especially Maldives.  At the end of the celebration all volunteers received certificates of appreciation as a reminder of their contribution, which we hope will motivate them to take further steps in the protection of our environment.

Continuing with these worthy initiatives to preserve the environment; on Sunday 8th of June a group of volunteers celebrated World Oceans Day, the theme of which was “Together, We Have The Power To Protect The Oceans”. The main focus for the day was coral gardening; which is the cultivation of corals for coral reef restoration. Volunteers went around the island to collect naturally broken coral fragments to be processed and attached to frames where they can grow into strong corals.

Kurumba Maldives (http://www.kurumba.com/) always likes to support CSR programs and these two days of environmental actions are a part of everyday responsibilities of the whole team, which we were glad to share with our guests.
