(TRAVPR.COM) SCOTLAND - September 22nd, 2014 - Scotland is big news at the moment and we all know why. That’s right, it’s because of the imminent World Stone Skimming Championships! This competition is to take place on Easdale Island on Sunday 28th September.
The competition has been big news north of the border since it was started back in 1983 by Albert Baker, and it attracts competitors from all over the world. Over 300 people come to take part nowadays, and anyone is welcome to pick a pebble and give it their best, with a chance of being crowned world champion – a dream that will be realised for one lucky chucker on 28th September. In the local area the tension is palpable!
And what an area it is. Easdale Island is located in the beautiful highlands of Scotland, and a short distance from the perhaps even more picturesque Taynuilt, home of Bonawe House.
This is an 18th century house in the Oban area, set in stunning grounds, lined with beach trees, and with a view over Loch Etive. Bonawe House is also close to the mighty Ben Cruachan, and a short 15 minute walk from the village of Taynuilt. There are six self-catering cottages to choose from, set in a courtyard behind the main house, and two apartments in the Edwardian Wing of the house.
This accommodation ensures you will be well rested and raring to go and see the big competition, or even to take part yourself!
