Lunar Eclipse Wednesday Morning, October 8
(TRAVPR.COM) USA - October 7th, 2014 - Cross your fingers for clear weather on Wednesday morning, October 8 as you look to the west before dawn for a spectacular lunar eclipse! The full moon will begin to turn red as the Earth passes between the sun and the moon, blocking sunlight from reaching the lunar surface. The lunar eclipse begins to be visible around 5:18 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time, as the Earth starts to cast its shadow on the moon’s surface. The best view for Northern New Englanders will be just before the moon dips below the horizon. While technically the moon sets at 6:56 a.m., in much of Northern New England it will be below the horizon before that – so catch as much as you can from 6 a.m. on.
In areas where there is a clear view of the horizon, you may have the opportunity to view for just a few minutes a rare celestial event: selenelion - when the sunrise is visible during the totality of a lunar eclipse.
Partial Solar Eclipse Thursday Afternoon October 23
Cross your fingers again for clear skies on the afternoon of October 23, when the moon returns the favor and blocks Earth’s view of the sun, giving us a partial solar eclipse just before sunset.
