(TRAVPR.COM) USA - October 28th, 2014 - WATERVILLE VALLEY, NH – Ah, Thanksgiving: Turkey, a fall hike, Santa on a dogsled, and taking a plunge into icy cold water… Sounds fun! Waterville Valley will offer all that, and more.
With late Fall there are miles of trails to hike and explore in the surrounding White Mountain National Forest; a great way for families to reconnect and work up an appitite.
Then Thanksgiving dinner, with all the trimmings, will be served at the Blue Moon Cafe, home of inspired local dining right in the Town Square. The next day, a new restaurant opens in Waterville Valley: The Valley Pub & Grill. Chef Michael "Woody" Woodman’s new Valley Pub is set above the Town Square. Look for family-friendly pub fare featuring New England products such as grass-fed beef from Pineland Farms Natural Meats in Maine, fresh haddock from New Hampshire’s Seacoast, and fresh produce from Black River, Vermont.
Also on Saturday November 29th at 1 p.m. grab your bathing suit (or costume) and dive into the icy waters of Corcoran Pond at the 2nd Annual Cold Turkey Plunge. The Cold Turkey Plunge is a fundraising event benefiting the Waterville Valley Adaptive Sports program, which provides athletic opportunities for people with cognitive and physical disabilities.
Anyone looking to take the plunge is asked to raise a minimum of $50 in donations, which earns you a Waterville Valley Adaptive Sports “empowered bracelet,” an official Cold Turkey Plunge long sleeve t-shirt and a tasty cold turkey sandwich made by Chef Sean Stout of the Coyote Grill. Plus the respect and amiration of those looking on….
Last year, after clearing ice measuring eight inches thick, more than 70 participants plunged and raised more than $12,000 for Waterville Valley Adaptive Sports.
