MULTI-MEDIA DETOX HOLIDAY – RECONNECT IN LAPLAND
Industry: Activity Breaks
Artisan Travel

Artisan Travel, the handcrafted-travel company, has introduced what it believes to be the first of its kind – a digital detox holiday in the heart of Finnish Lapland.

(TRAVPR.COM) UK - October 30th, 2014 - Torassieppi is deep in lake country in northern Finland: the lakes will be frozen when guests arrive, and it was the overwhelming silence and connection with the landscape, experienced when standing on the ice, that inspired this new holiday.

Staying on Torassieppi Reindeer Farm, just a couple of hundred metres from the lake’s edge, guests will hand over their phones on arrival and, with no internet access or TV available, for a blissful few days will be cut-off from the pings and alerts that make up our multi-media world. The rustic 1840’s lodge offers renowned locally sourced, organic food and activities including showshoeing, cross-country skiing and Aurora-hunting husky sledding.

Alistair McLean, MD of Artisan Holidays says: “One of the things I love about Finnish Lapland is that it is very sparsely populated and as a result, you can stand on a frozen lake or in a snowy forest and pretty much hear the silence. That’s exactly why we have set up this modern-day detox in one of the quietest places we know. We’ll turn off your phones, your portable tablets and anything else that connects you with the outside world, because this holiday is about switching off in more ways than one.”

Many recent studies have suggested that ancient stress responses such as fight or flight can be triggered by the always-on information overload culture we suffer from in modern life. This even extends to our holidays where many of us still check work emails and social media meaning that we don't give our bodies the time to relax and recover.

However, it has been noted that short periods of downtime can prevent stress building up and the aim is for guests on this holiday to return home feeling refreshed, relaxed, restored and rebooted.

Torassieppi - Lapland Offline is a 3-night short-break priced from £1,368 pp. It includes three nights’ full-board accommodation in an en-suite room and activities including snow-shoeing, cross-country skiing and a Northern Lights husky safari. Guests are also provided with cold-weather clothing for the duration of their stay. Flights are included from London Gatwick, as well as local transfers.
