Pre-Christmas jobs rush
More new travel jobs were made available last month than at any point in the past seven years, according to the latest Travel Salary Index from C&M Travel Recruitment and Chisholm & Moore Executive Recruitment, which surveyed all new roles registered at the companies during the month.
October’s total was driven by the huge number of standard travel jobs being advertised by companies looking to secure new staff before the Christmas period, while the number of new executive travel roles saw a slight dip.
Last month also saw another increase in new candidate registrations, with October’s figure reaching its highest level since May 2013.
“Last month saw the highest number of new travel vacancies being made available since August 2007 and the highest number of new candidate registrations since May 2013, so it’s fair to say the travel recruitment industry has truly come alive!” said Barbara Kolosinska, sales director at C&M Travel Recruitment and Chisholm & Moore Executive Recruitment.
“The big increase in new vacancies that we’ve seen is due to travel companies wanting to put themselves in the best position to start 2015 on a high, and we’re delighted that so many candidates are taking the opportunity to register for roles now before the holidays begin.
“But with so many new jobs currently on offer, it’s a fantastic opportunity for all travel professionals to take a closer look at the career options available to them by attending C&M’s Open Day on 10th December.”
Rise in average salaries
October also saw increases in average salaries for both new standard travel roles and executive positions. The average annual wage for a new job in travel now stands at £25,032, which is up by 2.00 per cent from last month and by 1.97 per cent from last October.
The biggest increase was for standard travel roles (those paying up to £40,000) which had a very strong 5.06 per cent jump in salaries last month - the highest rise since the start of the summer.
“With a two per cent monthly increase, salaries for new travel jobs reached £25,032 last month and are now less than £300 away from reaching a new high for the year,” said Ms Kolosinska.
