GRAND CANYON TOURS' HELICOPTER RIDES FOR NEW YEARS 2014
Industry: Tours

New Years Eve 2014 is rapidly approaching. Make it an event to remember. Take a helicopter ride. Best flights are on sale now.

(TRAVPR.COM) USA - December 19th, 2014 - There are many things Las Vegas travelers can do to ring in the New Year and one of the most memorable is to take a helicopter tour to the Grand Canyon.

Types of Tours

Aerial and landing tours will be departing from Las Vegas and Boulder City, NV, as regularly scheduled. Please note there will be no flights on Christmas Day, December 25th.

Further, all Vegas flights go over Lake Mead and Hoover Dam before reaching the Canyon. The most popular are landing tours that go to the top and bottom of Park.

"The one that gets the most action around the new year is the tour that lands at the bottom for a Champagne picnic," said Keith Kravitz, owner of Grand Canyon Helicopter Tours. "This trip can also be extended to include a boat ride down the famous Colorado River."

Skywalk

The next most popular tour is the one that includes tickets to the Grand Canyon Skywalk. "The glass bridge lets travelers walk some 70 feet past the edge," said Kravitz. "Once the furthest point is reached, one is standing about 4,000 feet over the bottom!"

Helicopter tours are available in basic and deluxe. Basic flights depart from Boulder City, NV, which requires a 30-minute van/shuttle from town. Deluxe flights, by contrast, leave from the Vegas Strip and include free limousine shuttle service.

"The other great thing about Deluxe tours is that all come with a tour over the Las Vegas Strip," noted Kravitz. "It's an unforgettable way to combine the best of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World with one of America's most famous skylines."

Best Seats

Front-seat requests are available but never guaranteed because helicopter seating is based on the overall weight of all passengers, which can only be determined at check-in. "If getting a front seat is important, than add it during the booking process," noted Kravitz. "Of course, it's not a sure thing but it does provide that extra edge."

New Year's is also one of the busiest holidays in Vegas so it's advised that travelers book heli rides in advance. "Rule of thumb is to lock down a tour right after room reservations are made," noted Kravitz. "And avoid trying to book within 72 hours of take off time. It's nearly impossible to get a seat and if you do the price will be astronomically high."

For best prices, Kravitz recommends always booking online. "Purchasing tours on the Web is safe, secure and convenient," he noted. "But more importantly, this is where the company posts the best deals, some of which are currently saving travelers up to 30 percent off the price of a retail ticket."

Be Prepared

Winter travelers are urged to dress accordingly for flights. Temperatures at the West Rim are similar to those in Las Vegas while those at the South Rim are much colder because it sits at an elevation of 7,000 feet.

"It's always a good idea to check the 5-day forecast prior to your departure date," said Kravitz. "Sure, helicopters are equipped with climate control and heat and the cabins themselves are comfortably warm. But landing tours require exiting the aircraft so being prepared is important."
