Paddling the Scottish Sea Kayak Trail
(TRAVPR.COM) SCOTLAND - February 19th, 2015 - Unexplored Scotland announces the Lord of the Isles Sea Kayaking Tour. This exciting trip is for the adventurous people as it will take people passed some of the fastest tides in Scotland and passed exposed headlands. The wildlife at the west coast of Scotland is incomparable to anywhere in Europe.
Anyone taking a sea kayaking journey along the coast in the Summer months between Oban and Mallaig has a realistic chance to sea seals, otters, porpoises, dolphins, whales, basking sharks and sea eagles amongst many other more common sea wildlife.
The first tour will start in early July in Oban and will take participants passed the Isle of Mull the second largest island of the Inner Hebrides. The east coast of Mull has some strong tides but is very sheltered. After a stay in Craignure the route will go up to Tobermory, which is arguably one of the most beautiful coastal towns in Scotland. Between Tobermory and Ardnamurchan Point basking sharks are a regular visitor and with some luck can be spotted from a sea kayak. After the exposed Ardnamurchan point the journey will go to Loch Moidart and then up Arisaig.
The islands at Arisaig are considered to be the Caribbean of Scotland and offer many sandy beaches, where you can find mussels and spot the rather timed otters. Further up the coast are some beaches where scenes for movies like Local Hero and Rob Roy were filmed. The final day will take the group to Mallaig, a buzzing fishing harbour.
