Infrastructure facilities at the Phu Quoc International Airport are being upgraded and more amenities are being set up. This includes exclusive visa desks, holding area, special enclosure for photographing foreign nationals, foreign exchange counter, proper signage and display, and telephone connections. Earlier this month Phu Quoc International Airport also began to offer a value added tax (VAT) refund service for foreigners and expatriate Vietnamese departing the country.
According to the Phu Quoc District People's Committee, 586,000 tourists visited the island last year, up 37.6 per cent from 2013. The number of foreign visitors went up by 21.5 per cent to 125,000. The island achieved tourism revenues of more than VND2.2 trillion (over US$103 million) last year, a whopping 84 per cent higher than in 2013.
The provisions of a 30 day visa exemption, VOA, and VAT refunds are expected to further boost tourism related revenue and development in Phu Quoc and help to promote the island as a premier international destination.
