FRESH CHALLENGES AND NEW HORIZONS – ACTIVE FAMILY SUMMER HOLIDAYS WITH ACTIVITIES ABROAD
Industry: Activity Breaks
Activities Abroad

Children may forget all about the classroom during the summer holidays, but that doesn’t mean they need to stop learning.

(TRAVPR.COM) UK - April 2nd, 2015 - Activities Abroad’s wide range of action-packed holidays offers the chance to pick up a variety of new skills in a fun and exciting environment, where families can really make the most of their time together.

On these holidays, adults and children will swap square eyes and screens for thrills and adventures, from white-water rafting to climbing, surfing, snorkelling and much more. Many trips are based in lesser-visited destinations, which the team at Activities Abroad has researched meticulously to find the very best locations with the very best local guides. With a varied and flexible range of itineraries, there’s a trip to suit everyone.

Here are some of the trips on offer this summer:

NEW: Borneo for water babies

It’s notoriously tricky to get teenagers enthused, but this diving trip to Borneo is sure to turn even hardened couch potatoes into scuba enthusiasts. The Sabah region of Malaysian Borneo is renowned for its spectacular subaquatic offerings. Think bright darting fish in a cocktail of tropical colours, idly gliding turtles and jagged forests of rainbow coral. The trip includes a 3.5 day PADI Open Water Diver course (age 15+) taught through classroom-based and practical sessions – the essential first step for all learner divers. Borneo’s wildlife is no less spectacular above the surface, and the trip also includes a jungle night walk, rainforest boat trip, jungle rafting, and visits to an Orangutan Rehabilitation Sanctuary, the Sun Bear Conservation Centre and Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary.

Departing 31 July & 14 August, the 11-night trip costs £2,375 pp (based on a family of four sharing) including airport transfers, B&B accommodation, seven lunches, two dinners, all activities listed in the itinerary, equipment, tuition and fully qualified instructors. Flights extra.

Tuscany cycling, canyoning & pizza-making

Tuscany’s the perfect playground for a family adventure and a 14th century farmhouse near Vinci (of Leonardo fame) makes the ideal base, with its private pool and spectacular views. What’s more, it’s easy to pop to Lucca, Florence or Pisa to ensure the kids get a good dose of history and local culture, too. Taking full advantage of the Tuscan landscape, you’ll abseil into caves, navigate an orienteering route, test your head for heights at a canyon and set off into the countryside on a bike. There’s also traditional pizza-making (and wine-tasting for the adults!) and, for that sweet-tooth fix, a visit to a gelateria.

Departing 18 July, 1 & 15 August, the seven-night trip costs £845 per adult and £745 per child (ages 9-14) in an apartment, including airport transfers, three meals, all activities listed in itinerary, equipment and fully-qualified instructors. Flights/car hire extra.

Starigrad Family Adventure, Croatia

Based in the beautiful region of Starigrad at the centre of the Paklenica Riviera, the town’s foundations are that of the ancient Roman city of Argyruntum. Today it’s a traditional coastal destination, with easy access to nearby canyons and mountains, and Zadar, a city with an extraordinary history and extremely valuable cultural heritage. Making the most of the rugged landscape and National Parks, this exciting family adventure to Croatia packs in a large variety of activities, as well as offering free time for families to explore at their own pace. Whizz down the Zrmanja River on a canoe safari, take a jeep safari to Velebit Mountain, spend a full day sea kayaking, and bike or hike through the high peaks, deep gorges and pine forests of Paklenica National Park.

Departing between May & August, the seven-night trip costs £1,030 per adult and £965 per child (ages 8-12) – two sharing – including flights (London), airport transfers, B&B accommodation, eight other meals, all activities listed in the itinerary, equipment and tuition from fully qualified instructors.

Activity galore on Portugal’s Alentejo coast

Head to the golden, rugged beaches along Portugal’s Alentejo Coast for a fun-filled activity holiday with the kids. Together with the seaside hotel’s two swimming pools, playground, mini golf and tennis court, there are plenty of activities to try out. From a day of surfing lessons and orienteering, to picnics in a pine forest and raft-building (including putting it to test on the water!) – all ages will be kept entertained, including the little ones. There’s also cycling, archery, abseiling and zip-wires to tackle, as well as plenty of beach time to boot. Accommodation is ideal for families, too, with villa and apartment-style rooms complete with modern kitchens and lounge areas.

Departing July and August, the seven-night trip costs from £1,095 pp (family of four sharing – aged 8+) including flights (London), transfers, B&B accommodation, six other meals, all activities listed in the itinerary, equipment and tuition from fully qualified instructors.
