The Spanish island of Ibiza has long had a hard-partying reputation, attracting young and affluent clubbers from all over the world to its glittering shores. But according to the results of a new survey, that may no longer be entirely true.
(TRAVPR.COM) UK - April 9th, 2015 - The survey, Ibiza Stereotypes and Holiday Habits Survey Report, was carried out by Ibiza accommodation booking specialist One of a Kind Villas. They found that the majority of those questioned (58%) agreed with the statement that "There's more to Ibiza than clubbing and parties", with just a small minority of the more than 380 people who took part in the survey disagreeing.
Island Of Love
It also debunked the myth that the island – located 92 kilometres off the eastern coast of mainland Spain – is solely a magnet for people who are young and single and looking to hook up with others. Of those questioned for the survey, more than half (53.47%) said they had visited Ibiza as a married couple, with just over 10% saying they were either engaged or in a relationship.
"This perfectly showcases the island’s broad appeal to both couples and singles alike," One of a Kind Villas said in a note accompanying the results of its survey, which was conducted between December 2014 and January 2015.
Ideal Accommodation
Most people (69.6%) opted to stay in hotel accommodation while on holiday in Ibiza, according to the survey, while other choices ranged from apartments (21.5%) and B&Bs (5.9%), to campervans (3%) and tents (3%). Of those who stayed at hotels, 73.4% said they would consider a villa the next time they visited if it meant they could save money - a figure that rose to 74.1% of all those who took the survey.
As for how much people are spending while visiting the sun-kissed, tourism-reliant island, younger visitors were, unsurprisingly, more willing to splash out. A total of 34.6% of those aged under 35 said they would spend up to £750 during their time on the island, while only 25.2% of those aged over 46 said they would spend a similar amount – and more than a quarter in that age bracket said £300 would be their limit.
Further Findings
Other findings from the survey include that 35.9% believe Ibiza is a good place to holiday with teenage children and that 25.6% don't think it's a suitable holiday destination for the elderly.
