On Saturday, May 23, kids can try to catch Corcoran Pond’s elusive Kirby during the annual Casting for Kirby Youth Fishing Derby. Registration starts at 8 a.m., with fishing starting at 8:30 a.m. for ages 7 and under, and 8:45 a.m. for children ages 8 to 15. A breakfast will be offered á la carte in the Town Square by the Public Safety Department starting at 8 a.m. The first 100 Derby entrants get a t-shirt and starter bait. Prizes will be awarded across age groups beginning at 11 a.m. Pre-registration is $6 a participant if completed by May 15. After May 15 registration is $10. In addition, there will be a balloon artist and face painter on hand from 9 to 11 a.m., a live animal presentation by Wildlife Encounters at 10 a.m., boat rentals, and a visit by Bruce the Moose at 11 a.m. A bounce house will set-up for kids from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
On Sunday, May 24, sample a variety of chowders from local restaurants at the 26th Annual Chowderfest & Brews. Sampling runs from 12 noon to 2 p.m. with guests submitting ballots for their favorites as restaurants vie for the “Golden Clam” award for the best chowder. Admission is $7.50 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. From noon to 4 p.m. seasonal ales from New Hampshire’s own Smuttynose Brewing Company will be available in the brew tent for guests 21 and older.
While enjoying the chowder and brews, guests will also be treated to live music on the Gazebo Stage from 12 noon to 3 p.m. and additional live entertainment from 4 to 7 p.m.
