Cycling the challenging and beautiful hill country of Sri Lanka is made achievable on Grasshopper Adventures’ NEW ‘Sri Lanka by Bike the Easy Way’ tour, designed to appeal to a wide range of riders
(TRAVPR.COM) SRI LANKA - July 1st, 2015 - The hill country of Sri Lanka, a beautiful emerald green region of tea plantations and rolling hills, is customarily viewed as a challenge for cyclists, however the new Grasshopper Adventures’ ‘Sri Lanka by Bike the Easy Way’ tour is carefully designed to make biking this area broadly achievable to all riders. Using trains and the private support vehicle to minimise uphill riding, the route involves plenty of downhills along quiet back roads, with not more than 45km cycling on any given day.
Beginning with a train ride from Colombo to Kandy, located in the heart of the hill country, the tour then takes riders to Nuwara Eliya, with its fields of tea, and on to the ‘World’s End’ at the Horton Plains, so-called for its incredible views. Continuing to the popular and scenic town of Ella, the route then descends to the south coast, taking in Yala National Park and Tissamaharama lakes with their wealth of animal and bird life. After a welcome break at the lovely beach resort of Mirissa the tour ends at the historic town of Galle.
As with all Grasshopper Adventure holidays the accommodation on tour is carefully selected, using a range of properties both supremely comfortable and with a touch of style. The terrain is a mix of sealed and unsealed secondary roads and quiet country lanes, with only four uphill sections of no more than 2km in length. The remainder of the ride is flat, rolling hills and down, with around no more than four hours riding per day.
