Produces First-of-Its Kind Timeshare Resale Executive Study Focused on Finding Solutions
(TRAVPR.COM) UNITED STATES - August 18th, 2015 - The National Timeshare Owners Association is pleased to announce that Dr. Tammie Kaufman, an associate professor with tenure at the University of Central Florida, has agreed to work with the NTOA's Secondary Market Solutions committee and to publish the association's first executive study on timeshare resale issues.
Dr. Kaufman, a professor at the Rosen College of UCF, teaches the Principles of Resort Timesharing, Resort Sales Tactics and Strategies and Resort Management with consumer-based timeshare resort research as her primary focus. After reviewing the NTOA’s work on consumer resale issues, Dr. Kaufman agreed to join other industry professionals and timeshare owners to help analyze and prepare data compiled by the association's Secondary Market Solutions committee. That work, along with significant owner input, will be used to develop and publish the upcoming NTOA Timeshare Resale Study.
"Timeshare is a wonderful alternative for those that want a richer, reliable vacation experience. I am looking forward to helping the industry better understand the timeshare consumer and provide them with what they need. I believe in this industry and am happy to donate my services to the NTOA and to assisting them in analyzing their consumer- driven data", said Dr. Kaufman.
Dr. Kaufman will write an executive study of the data collected, which the NTOA will publish free-of-charge as a public service.
ADDRESSING THE RESALE PROBLEM HEAD ON
For more than a decade, unscrupulous telemarking and resale operations have plagued consumers seeking a legitimate secondary market in timeshare. As a result, more than 10 billion dollars in available inventory sits idle with more piling on each year. The NTOA felt the need to take the timeshare resale issue head on and to help educate consumers on how to buy or sell timeshares safely in the secondary market.
“It is imperative that the NTOA continues to work with the community and authorities to bring solutions to the timeshare resale marketplace”, said Wes Kogelman, CEO of BuyATimeshare.com and the NTOA’s Secondary Market Solutions committee chair.
“We all understand the challenges that the resale sector faces, but it’s time to forge ahead with new ideas while acknowledging the problems of the past. This committee has benefitted from terrific participation from leaders with years of in-depth experience from across the timeshare industry, as well as direct consumer input.
CHALLENGE IS DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF US
“As a consumer-based organization working to bridge long standing gaps, our association knew it was time to address the lack of trust and transparency facing consumers in the timeshare arena” said Gregory Crist, CEO of the NTOA. “There are going to be some people who sit up and take notice. With the challenge being directly in front of us, our team is not focused on compiling data…we’re about fixing a broken system.”
