Help the environment by stop using and supporting mass produced printed maps and guides on Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam
(TRAVPR.COM) VIETNAM - September 3rd, 2015 - Vietnam’s Phu Quoc Island grows unsightly with omnipresent litter as beaches, the sea, rivers and streets are topped with garbage and have taken a toll on tourism as well as the environment. “Litter is everywhere, both in the water and on the street,” said Jacob, a frustrated Swiss tourist who recently vacationed on the island.
A lot of the garbage arrives on Phu Quoc's shores because of the southwestern monsoon and there is not much businesses and tourist's can do about that. There is, however, something that everyone who is on the island or visits can do, which is to boycott the use of mass distributed maps, island guides, and pamphlets. Printed material has a destructive impact on the environment. Once the media is consumed it is then tossed into the garbage or into the environment. Currently Phu Quoc does not have a recycling facility and most of the islands garbage is burned or illegally dumped.
The next time you or on Phu Quoc, please refrain from using any mass produced printed material and boycott all businesses that support it. This simple act will have a profound positive affect on the environment and will get businesses to clean up their act by going paperless.
