Abu Dhabi, UAE – August 11th, 2015: In honour of International Youth Day, on August 12th, 13th and 14th the Anantara resorts at Sir Bani Yas Island will be offering children staying at the resorts, the unique opportunity to take part in their Green Footprint programme on a complimentary basis (normally AED 100).
Embracing this year’s theme of ‘Youth Civic Engagement’ Anantarais offering the “Green Footprint” as a unique educational opportunity to actively involve children -the decision makers and influencers of tomorrow- with the conservation of the island.
Designed with children from 4 to 12 years in mind, each child will have the chance to plant their own mangrove tree and leave their green footprint on Sir Bani Yas Island.
The planting of mangroves saplings and expansion of the mangroves will have a positive impact on the island’s ground, water and animal life for years to come. Providing shelter and nourishment for thousands of animals, they also prevent erosion by stabilising sediment with their root system, in addition to serving as a natural filter for water.
The experience concludes with a visit to the island nursery to learn more about the trees growing on the island, such as the Miswak and the Frankincense, and explaining some of their traditional and medicinal values.
Green Footprint is available throughout the year, with a specialised programme available for schools and group visits, including private transportation within the island, unlimited water and lunchboxes for a group picnic after the activity. The Activities Team at Sir Bani Yas Island can customize this programme to fit special requests.
