BAREFOOT HOLIDAYS’ ‘FLAVORS OF ST. LUCIA’ INTRODUCES GUESTS TO ISLAND CUISINE
Industry: Destinations

Hands-on Classes Led by Master Chefs Teaches Use of Local Fruits, Vegetables and Herbs

(TRAVPR.COM) UNITED STATES - November 17th, 2015 - Barefoot Holidays, one of St. Lucia’s leading destination management companies, is offering a unique culinary experience, “Flavors of St. Lucia”, where visitors have the opportunity to learn popular St. Lucian cuisine and cooking techniques from highly regarded island chefs. The three-hour demonstration is held at the “Greenwood Terrace Heritage Experience”, a new cultural attraction comprised of lush tropical gardens, a culinary facility and a mini-museum. Open to groups of six to fourteen people, guests learn to prepare local dishes and how to accentuate the flavor of each recipe by combining and blending fresh native grown fruits, vegetables and herbs to give each dish a Caribbean flare.

The excursion costs $110 per person, with prices varying for private excursions. Free transportation is included from hotels and the main seaport in the north as well as from the Rodney Bay Marina.

“The fastest way to become immersed in the culture and history of St. Lucia is to learn about its cuisine,” said Erwin Louisy, president of Barefoot Holidays. “The authentic, hands-on demonstration introduces guests to the techniques, traditions and Creole recipes passed on through generations. Participants are sure to carry this unique knowledge home with them and incorporate it into their everyday lives, long after their vacations end.”

Food for Thought

“Flavors of St. Lucia” is a culinary adventure through the fascinating history of the island, led by some of the island’s most renowned master chefs, including Chef Orlando Satchell and Chef Pascal. Chef Satchell has spent decades promoting Caribbean cuisine around the world, while Chef Pascal has proudly represented the island in both regional and international culinary competitions. Eager to share their knowledge of island cuisine, they expertly guide their guests through the preparation of an extraordinary three course Caribbean meal.

“Not only will the guests enjoy the flavorful cuisine, they can also lend a hand in the preparation and take home their new-found knowledge to attempt in their own kitchen!” said Louisy.

Among the sample menus is one featuring local pumpkin and spinach soup to start, followed by cocoa mahi mahi – fresh mahi mahi, marinated in local herbs and cocoa, grilled then served on a slice of watermelon with a fruit salsa. Lastly, guests will enjoy a light island mango mousse for dessert.

An array of historic artifacts and utensils will also be on display for visitors. After the cooking session and discussion with the chef, guests are free to explore the lush tropical gardens on the grounds as well as the mini-museum.

“’Flavors of St. Lucia’ will leave guests with authentic and fond memories, an honorary cooking certificate and a new found love for Caribbean cuisine,” said Louisy.

Barefoot Holidays also offers full-day or half-day excursions and private tours, as well as reservation opportunities for weddings and special events, as part of numerous excursions to St. Lucian’s newest attraction, the “Greenwood Terrace Heritage Experience,” where the cooking demonstration takes place.

Barefoot Holidays St. Lucia was a 2012 and 2013 winner at the World Travel Awards, hailed as “The Oscars of the Travel Industry.” Travel agents will receive 10 percent commission for bookings of either excursion.
