GUYANA TOURISM AUTHORITY BOOSTS AWARENESS WITH ADVENTURE-BASED MEDIA TRIP
Industry: Eco Travel

The little known emerging eco-tourism destination of Guyana, South America is boosting its awareness to American travelers, nature lovers, and adventure seekers.

(TRAVPR.COM) Miami, FL, USA - November 23rd, 2015 – A group of U.S.-based journalists discovered the virtually untouched and preserved natural beauty of Guyana in a five-day media familiarization trip hosted by the Guyana Tourism Authority. As a remote little known emerging eco-tourism destination located on the northern coast of South America, the purpose of the media trip was to expose Guyana’s undiscovered gems and vast natural attractions to American nature-lovers, adventure seekers, and cultural enthusiasts. Caribbean Airlines was the airline carrier for the media trip as it continues to expand services to Guyana.

“Guyana is ready to be discovered, and we are excited by the opportunity to promote this vibrant destination and increase awareness of the raw authentic adventure and stunning scenery of our country,” shares Mr. Indranauth Haralsingh, Director of the Guyana Tourism Authority. “The timing of this media FAM trip was perfect as we’re in the middle of the month-long Guyana Tourism Awareness Month throughout the month of November. This media trip kicks off our goal to introduce this undiscovered little known, English-speaking South American country with Caribbean flair to American travelers and to the rest of the world.”

The journalists explored why Guyana was noted by National Geographic as the best kept secret in South America and 21 must see places in 2014. The tailored itinerary included a perfect combination of an adventure fix and eco-tourism traveling by land, river boats, and light aircraft to experience the vast Amazonian virgin rainforest, rolling savannah, magnificent waterfalls, mighty rivers, exotic species in their natural habitat, and the lively Caribbean coast all in one trip. Among one of the stops on the itinerary was Kaieteur Falls, the world’s highest free-falling waterfall with a total drop of 822 feet, nearly five times the height of Niagara Falls. There was also an opportunity to interact with welcoming and thriving Amerindian indigenous and multi-ethnic communities who have a fascinating story to tell.

Guyana is an important destination for Caribbean Airlines and one that we are committed to supporting the promotion of,” shares Dionne Ligoure, Head of Corporate Communications at Caribbean Airlines. “As the airline with Flag Carrier Status, Caribbean Airlines is committed to the people of Guyana with whom we have enjoyed a long legacy of cooperation providing consistent and reliable service since our start in 2007.”

Resulting from the trip is an opportunity for the participating journalists to help share Guyana’s beautiful story and to help create greater exposure for the destination. The media FAM trip was from November 17 to November 22, 2015 and commenced in the capitol of Georgetown, Guyana with stops within Guyana’s interior highlands.
