Standard salaries continue to rise
After rising to a two-and-a-half year high in October, salaries for new standard travel jobs (those paying up to £40,000) have risen again by 4.42 per cent in November to their highest level since February 2013, according to the latest Travel Salary Index from C&M Travel Recruitment and C&M Executive Recruitment which surveyed all new vacancies at the consultancies in the month.
Standard salaries have now reached £22,783, meaning such roles have seen double digit annual wage growth for three successive months.
The increase helped overall salaries rise to £25,855 which is the second highest total of 2015 so far, while the 4.17 per cent monthly rise was the largest since May 2014.
There was also a rebound in salaries for executive travel roles (those paying above £40,000) with increased levels of activity indicating that the market is picking up after a quiet few months.
Speaking about the figures, Barbara Kolosinska, Director at C&M Travel Recruitment and C&M Executive Recruitment, said: “This is the strongest set of monthly figures that we have seen in some time with travel salaries rising across the board – from entry-level positions all the way up to senior and executive roles.
“What’s most impressive is that wages for typical travel jobs have risen again and have now increased in six of the past seven months. We’re also delighted to see an increase in both the number of senior roles being made available and the salaries being offered. It’s been a quiet late summer and autumn period for executive travel positions, but the signs indicate that things are now picking up.”
Candidate numbers remain low
There was no increase in the number of candidates registering for new roles in November, with the total falling to its lowest level since December 2013. While there is unlikely to be a significant change in the run up to Christmas, things are likely to improve as people focus again on their careers in the New Year.
Similarly, there was a lack of new travel jobs being made available, with November marking the fourth dip in the past five months.
