Record month for salaries

Salaries for typical new travel jobs increased in April to a new record high, according to the latest Travel Salary Index from C&M Travel Recruitment and C&M Executive Recruitment which surveyed the month’s new vacancies.

Average travel salaries (roles paying less than £40,000) rose by 3.50 per cent in the month to reach £23,209, which is the highest since the Index began in 2011.

Overall salaries in the south also hit a new all-time high of £28,816, with much of this increase being down to London’s record monthly figure of £29,939, while northern wages also rose for the third month in a row to reach £22,799.

In terms of the overall UK average, salaries now stand at £26,199 which is up by 1.34 per cent from March and up 5.78 per cent from last April.

Barbara Kolosinska, Director at C&M Travel Recruitment and C&M Executive Recruitment, said: “Salaries for typical new travel jobs have risen to a record high, which is fantastic news for job seekers and the whole travel industry. Wages have actually increased annually for the past six months, so this is clearly more than a brief blip – and long may it continue!

“It’s also great to see salaries increase for both standard and executive jobs, as well as in both the south and north of the UK. Prior to this year, this had only happened once in the space of the previous two years, but we have now seen these universal salary increases three times in the past four months. 2016 really has got off to a record start!”

Registrations jump in April

There was also positive news in terms of candidate registrations in April with the number of people searching for travel jobs increasing by 21 per cent from March and by 35 per cent annually. However, new vacancy numbers fell in April and remained down year-on-year.

Ms Kolosinska added: “More travel candidates searched for jobs in April than at any point since last October - and with average salaries jumping to a record high last month, there’s a very obvious incentive for many more travel professionals to begin their job search too.”

All figures are drawn from the salaries of the month’s new vacancies advertised with C&M Travel Recruitment and C&M Executive Recruitment.

C&M Travel Recruitment was established in 1998 and is the largest and most successful specialist travel recruitment company in the UK.
