The weekend’s highlight takes place Saturday evening in the Granite Room and features whiskey enthusiast Nigel Manley, who has collected, sampled and studied the spirits for over 30 years. He’ll focus on the history of whiskey production in the U.S. and demonstrate the differences between rye, bourbon. white whiskey and wheated whiskey.
“Part of the allure of enjoying a glass of whiskey is the variations in fermentation and flavor,” said Adair innkeeper Cindy Foster. “What’s fun about our Whiskey in the Woods event is that our guests will take with them a new appreciation about the nuances of whiskey and its appeal.”
Set among 200 acres with views of the Presidential Range and Franconia Notch, the Adair was built in 1927 by prominent Washington, DC attorney Frank Hogan for his only child, Dorothy, when she married. Frequent guests at the home included politicians, sports figures of the day and even Hollywood actress Helen Hayes, her childhood friend.
