Malawi President Peter Mutharika has disclosed plans in this year’s budgets to build a brand new international airport in Blantyre – replacing the existing Chileka airport. There are further plans also in place to refurbish the Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe.
(TRAVPR.COM) UK - June 13th, 2016 - Malawi President Peter Mutharika has disclosed plans in this year’s budgets to build a brand new international airport in Blantyre – replacing the existing Chileka airport. There are further plans also in place to refurbish the Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe.
With an increase in international traffic from Kenya Airways and Ethiopian Airlines with both extending their services to Chileka to join South African Airways, an all-new and modern Chileka International Aiport is planned to meet demand.
Plan to renovate and improve KIA are set to begin this year to keep in line with the Department of Civil Aviation safety requirements. The project, which is being funded by Japan with a K17 billion grant, is due for completion in 2018.
