Considered one of “the most watery cities” in the world, its canals and harbors take up a quarter of its surface.  Its 17th century Canal Belt is a UNESCO's World Heritage site. Visitors can take in everything from the beautiful flowers and historical monuments to medieval architecture of places such as the walled city of Muidan – a historic monument in itself. The city of Vinkeveen, south of Amsterdam, is home to the Vinkeseense Plassen, a recreational lake where visitors can enjoy swimming, diving and other water sports.
