Strengthening our commitment to sustainability management and consistent sustainable business practices, Destination Asia has become a member of the Travelife Sustainability in Tourism scheme.
(TRAVPR.COM) THAILAND - March 21st, 2017 - Strengthening our commitment to sustainability management and consistent sustainable business practices, Destination Asia has become a member of the Travelife Sustainability in Tourism scheme. With 31 operational offices in Asia and 9 worldwide sales offices, Asia’s leading DMC has taken great steps to steer its practices along a more sustainable route and will now work closely with Travelife to manage and improve social and environmental impacts. As an engaged Travelife member, Destination Asia must comply with over 200 sustainability criteria that can be grouped into five key areas: Office operations; Product development; Working with suppliers; Customer relations and Destinations. There are three stages of Travelife certification for tour operators and travel agents: Travelife Engaged; Travelife Partner and Travelife Certified. "Through regular training, raised awareness and developing a culture of sustainable management and best practice guidance, Destination Asia aims to achieve certification, the third and highest level," commented Nicholas Mulley, Chief Operating Officer of Destination Asia. "This process will run alongside our corporate social responsibility programs as we look to further develop and instill our ethical and environmental values throughout all areas of the business." Since becoming an engaged Travelife member, Destination Asia has joined with other DMCs as members of the ‘Elephant camp welfare and sustainability standard and assessment initiative’. At present no widely accepted set of criteria and evaluation system is present for Elephant camps in Asia. As a key member of the group, Destination Asia will help develop common standards and tools in order to jointly evaluate suppliers and ultimately, motivate camps towards improved animal welfare and sustainability standards.
