"From Victorian to Usonian to Culinary Delights: History/Architecture/Culinary Getaway” Special with the Ash Street Inn
(TRAVPR.COM) USA - May 11th, 2017 - MANCHESTER, NH —Around the world, people will be celebrating the birth of Frank Lloyd Wright, who would be turning 150 on June 8. Fans of the master architect can celebrate the anniversary by visiting the most famous building he designed in New England, the Zimmerman House.
To celebrate one of the world’s greatest modern architects, the Currier Museum will offer special focus tours throughout 2017, and the nearby Ash Street Inn has created a special package to experience the Zimmerman House, and the city of Manchester, in which it is was built.
The "From Victorian to Usonian to Culinary Delights: History/Architecture/Culinary Getaway” offers guests of the Ash Street Inn—a stunning 19th century Victorian—a celebratory one-night package for two (rates from $259) that features a tour of the Zimmerman House and same-day ticket to the Currier Museum of Art.
The package includes a full breakfast, a $50 gift card for dining at either Campo Enoteca or Republic Café, located in downtown Manchester, and a voucher for a “Drinking Chocolate Service for Two” (valued at $24) at Dancing Lion Chocolate, owned and operated by Master Chocolatier, Richard Tango-Lowy, who was named one of the Top 10 Chocolatiers in North America in 2016 by Dessert Professional magazine.
The Isadore J. and Lucille Zimmerman House (1950) is a mid-century modern home that is entirely a Wright creation. In addition to the home, he designed the interiors, furniture, gardens, and even the mailbox. In 1979, the building was listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Dr. and Mrs. Zimmerman left the property to the Currier in 1988. In 1990, the house and grounds were opened to the public so that visitors could enjoy glimpses of a private world from the 1950s and 1960s, including the Zimmermans’ personal collection of modern art, pottery, and sculpture. The Zimmerman House itself is a work of art. The only Wright home open to the public in New England, it is also one of only a few Wright buildings owned and operated by an art museum.
Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959) designed more than 1,000 structures in his lifetime, 532 of which were completed. His belief in organic architecture led to buildings that were in harmony with the environment, Fallingwater (1935) was his masterpiece, and has been referred to as "the best all-time work of American architecture”. In 1991 Wright was recognized by the American Institute of Architects as "the greatest American architect of all time."
Zimmerman House tours are available either at 11:15 am, 1:15 pm or at 3:15 pm and there are no tours available on Tuesdays or Wednesdays.
