Industry: Associations

Memorial Day Weekend kicks off summer at Granite State resorts

(TRAVPR.COM) USA - May 15th, 2017 - CONWAY, NH —Though many of New Hampshire’s ski areas closed their slopes for skiing and snowboarding back in April, they will soon be buzzing with activity for summer. Summer operations kick off as early as Memorial Day Weekend for some of Ski NH’s 34 members, and offer opportunities for vacation-goers and weekend warriors to explore the mountains.

New for 2017, Bretton Woods is adding foot golf—a combination of soccer and golf—and pickleball; Cranmore’s summit Meister Hut will serve as the only satellite tasting room for Tuckerman Brewing Company, and a new summit hiking loop has been cut; Loon Mountain has added a fleet of eight Giant E+ bikes for guests to use on their paved pathways; and Mount Sunapee will offer archery, a mountain bike off-road terrain pump track, and moonlight canopy zipline tours.

In addition to activities like golf, mountain biking, hiking, horseback riding, yoga, and Segway tours, the following tried-and-true pastimes can be found all summer long at these resorts:

Mountain Coasters – Cranmore Mountain Resort and Gunstock Mountain Resort.
Scenic Chairlift Rides –Bretton Woods, Cannon Mountain, Cranmore Mountain, Gunstock Mountain, Loon Mountain, Mount Sunapee, and Waterville Valley.
Aerial Adventures and Ziplines –Bretton Woods, Cranmore Mountain, Gunstock Mountain, Loon Mountain Resort and Mount Sunapee.
Boating – Cannon Mountain, Gunstock Mountain, King Pine Ski Area at Purity Spring Resort, and Great Glen Trails and Waterville Valley.

The events calendar is also chock-full of both new and old favorites from now through October, such as foot races, mountain bike festivals, food-centric gatherings, concerts, and day and overnight camps for kids. Some new events for 2017 include the return of the Gunstock Hillclimb on May 27 after a five-year hiatus, and the Gunstock Mountain Brew & BBQ on August 26; Mount Sunapee will host a Kids Mountain Adventure Camp and an Air Camp for freestyle skiers; and Waterville Valley will play host to the O2X race on September 16 and 17.

Ski lodges in mountain settings also make for ideal wedding and conference locations, which is growing in popularity at New Hampshire’s resorts.
