(TRAVPR.COM) UK - July 7th, 2017 -
- 6% of Brits booked a summer holiday specifically to avoid some or all of the General Election campaign
- 3% cancelled or amended their holidays since the election was called
- Research from the DCC Forum has revealed the changing travel plans of Brits before they headed to the polls
Research from the DCC Forum today reveals that 1 in 6 Brits (16%) planned to spend some or all of this year’s General Election campaign abroad on a summer holiday.
As Brits faced the prospect of heading to the polls for the third nationwide election in as many years, there were signs that voters are looking to get some respite from politicians on the campaign trail by heading off on an early summer holiday. 6% of those surveyed said that they had deliberately booked holidays abroad in order to avoid the election campaign. Meanwhile, 3% said that they had cancelled or amended their summer holidays abroad so as not to clash with the election.
The research of 500 British holidaymakers was carried out by the DCC Forum, the industry body that helps business travellers understand the choices available to them when they pay by credit or debit card abroad at a till or an ATM, in partnership with Vitreous World.
Jennifer Conneely, board member of the DCC Forum, comments: “With three national elections in three years, Brits can be forgiven for looking for a break from politics. Party activists might have found fewer people responding to their door knocking as they opted to escape for a quick city break or beach holiday. Brits should ensure though that in their rush to the sunshine they prepare properly for their holidays, including finding out more about their payment options while abroad.”
