(TRAVPR.COM) UK - September 13th, 2017 - Fisherman's Rest are based south-west of Blantyre, Malawi. As well as providing accommodation, Fisherman’s Rest organise unforgettable experiences for their guests involving social and community projects around Malawi. Each month we publish their newsletter, which showcases all the exciting work they’ve been a part of.
This summer, Fisherman’s Rest hosted a girl guiding group from the Midlands (UK). These amazing young ladies proved to be constantly enthusiastic and could certainly take on anything the Fishmeman’s Rest team threw at them! The group worked hard in local communities with various challenges. They assisted in building a changu changu moto (a ‘fast fast fire’ fuel efficient stove which helps with the fight on deforestation in Malawi by dramatically reducing the amount of wood needed to burn), repaired a borehole, visited Tilitonse Community Centre and the My Girl Project all of which allowed them to see how locals live and how they were making a difference to their lives.
As well as working with the Girl Guiding group, Fisherman’s Rest worked with many schools this summer. Trinity School, Culford School and Sutton Grammar school landed in Malawi, rolled up their sleeves and got stuck straight into projects. With building and renovating classrooms, building libraries, collecting books, raising money and running project my girl/boy – the list is endless. The enthusiasm and energy plugged into Fisherman’s Rest over the summer will be continued with future projects in the local communities.
