The road trip, "Beer, Bratwurst and Beyond," is designed specifically for the craft brewing industry, beer enthusiasts and Slow Food lovers. Participants will get a close-up look at independent breweries, women makers and abbey breweries.
The Pink Boots Society is the world’s largest association of women in the beer and brewing trade with members in 40 states and ten countries around the world.
“We believe in Beer Without Borders. That’s why we’re inviting serious beer lovers and members of the trade to join us on the road for the Beer, Bratwurst and Beyond™ study tour this fall,” says Emily Engdahl, Executive Director of the Pink Boots Society.
The beer tour starts and ends in Frankfurt. The dates are October 13 - 23, 2017. Space is limited and the trip is nearly full. Info and reservations are available online at Treasures of Europe Tours, www.treasuresofeuropetours.com. Participants will travel by coach with a private driver.
On tap for the road trip: 11th-generation beer makers Moni and Gisi Meinel, three abbey breweries, a briefing and visit to a family-operated hops farm, fall Kirchweih festival, private visits to traditional family-owned breweries, a Bratwurst Seminar, sessions with new-school craft beer makers, tastings, a trip to the home of communally produced Zoigl beer in remote eastern Bavaria and a private gathering hosted by Sister Doris.
Beer, Bratwurst and Beyond™ brings a new twist to beer travel. The beer tour will skip the Oktoberfest and Big Beer destinations, concentrating instead on hidden brewing hot-spots in Munich, Central Bavaria, the Upper Palatinate and Franconia.
The Association of Private Breweries in Bavaria, a prominent trade organization, representing independent beer makers, has signed on as a sponsor of the tour.
The beer and brewing paradigm is shifting in Germany. “Upstart craft brewers are challenging old orthodoxies with inventive, edgy new beer styles. Women brewers in Germany are at the top of their game and are slowly getting the recognition they deserve,” says Tom Conrad, of Treasures of Europe Tours, the Philadelphia-based operator that is offering the trip with PBS.
“New-vibe craft brewing is flourishing alongside the old-school artisanal beer culture that has defined German brewing for centuries. The new-old mix makes today’s German beer scene incredibly exciting,” added Conrad.
