Strong month for travel salaries
After four months of successive falls, salaries for the standard new job in travel rebounded in a big way in November, according to the latest Travel Salary Index from C&M Travel Recruitment and C&M Executive Recruitment which surveyed all new vacancies registered with the companies during the month.
With a 7.57 per cent increase, standard travel job wages (those paying up to £40,000) stood at £25,789 – their second highest figure since the index began in 2012. Salaries have also increased by an impressive 6.39 per cent on the rolling 12-month average.
Overall, average travel job wages edged up by 0.84 per cent in November to stand at £27,253, but rose by a huge 8.46 per cent from the same month last year. On the rolling 12-month average, wages have risen by 3.46 per cent.
It was a great month for new travel jobs in the north of the UK, with average salaries rising by 7.61 per cent from October and by 4.75 per cent from November 2017 to stand at £24,427 – their highest level since October 2012.
Activity levels dip
The number of new candidates searching for new travel jobs fell in November but by just 2 per cent from October. However there was a larger fall of 9 per cent compared to November 2017.
Meanwhile the number of new jobs in the travel industry dipped by 9 per cent in the month, but rose by a strong 21 per cent from last November.
Speaking about the stats, Barbara Kolosinska, Director at C&M Travel Recruitment and C&M Executive Recruitment, said: “It’s been a strong year for travel salaries and with just one month to go it looks like 2018 will set new records for wages in the industry. The 7.6 per cent monthly rise in pay for standard travel jobs is huge, and while we’re unlikely to see this kind of increase become a regular occurrence, it’s clear that the typical new travel role is now paying significantly more than at the same point last year.
“In terms of activity, the number of new travel roles being made available has jumped by 21 per cent from last November. When you couple this with the small fall in the number of jobseekers, it means that we continue to have a candidate driven market with the best applicants being highly in demand.”
