CRETA MARIS WELCOMES 50 STUDENTS, AIMING TO RAISE THEIR AWARENESS ON SUSTAINABILITY ISSUES
Industry: Eco Travel

2019 Open School Days

(TRAVPR.COM) CRETE - November 4th, 2019 - On Tuesday, 22nd of October, Creta Maris Beach Resort had the pleasure to welcome 50 students of the 3rd Lyceum of Heraklion, with the purpose to inform and raise their awareness on environmental issues. In the context of the resort’s actions aiming to promote the sustainable operation, Creta Maris presented to the students the sustainable waste management practices that are followed extensively during the past 3 years and the way they contribute to the resort’s Zero Waste policy.

This “Open School Days” initiative was organized as part of the Creta Maris Sustainability Program, aiming to reinforce the sense of responsibility that the students must have in order to protect the environment. The resort hopes to awake the young people to create a more sustainable future by helping them to understand the impact their consumer habits have on the environment.

Starting from Creta Maris aromatic herb garden the students had the opportunity to get acquainted with the Cretan herbs and typical examples of the Cretan flora, as well as to learn the methods of their cultivation.

Moreover, the students were also given the opportunity to learn about the sustainable waste management practices Creta Maris applies. In this context, a unique tour was organized in the resort's specially equipped recycling and composting facilities, which operate under its Zero Waste policy, where they were informed about the procedures a hotel unit has to apply in order to minimize and eliminate its wastes. At the hotel's recycling center, they were informed of the quantities and items recycled, while they had the chance to closely watch the process of waste collection, separation, pressing and its management overall.

Finally, in Creta Maris’ Organic Field the students learned about the special tools that are required for the management of horticultural waste (such as shredder), the process of composting and the benefits it offers both to a hotel unit and the environment.
Sustainable development goals are the driving force behind Creta Maris operation. With the aim to ensure the protection of the natural environment, the resort minimizes its environmental footprint, by having an integrated sustainability program that is based on international best practices.
