North Hampton, NH (December 20, 2019) - John Murtha, General Manager of the OmniParker House in Boston and Area Managing Director for Omni Hotels and Resorts washonored by New England Inns & Resorts Association (NEIRA) with their Masters of NewEngland Innkeeping Award on October 30th at the Samoset Resort in Rockport, Maine, announced NEIRA CEO Beth Steucek.  NEIRA’s highest award honors hospitality professionals who have made a lasting contribution to the culture of New England hospitality.

“John is well known for his leadership in the hospitality industry,” said Steucek, “Nominatedby his peers for this award, and as a past Chairman of the Association, John has been a source of inspiration for hoteliers and Innkeepers all over New England with his deep industry knowledge and breadth of experience.”

Murtha is a 40-year veteran of the industry with 25 years of experience as general manager of urban and resort hotels in the U.S. and Caribbean. Since 2007 Murtha has been General Manager of Boston’s Omni Parker House, the longest continuously operating hotel in the United States, and is the area Managing Director responsible for the Omni Bedford Springs Resort, Omni New Haven Hotel, Omni Providence Hotel and the Omni Mt. During the award presentation a fifteen-minute video documented Murtha’s management philosophy and style. “Take great care of your staff and don’t micromanage them,” said Murtha. “Hire the best person for the job and then leave them alone.  It’s so important to take care of your staff- and that’s everyone on staff.
