North Hampton, NH (December 20, 2019) – Rob Blood, Founder & CEO of Lark Hotels was honored by New England Inns & Resorts Association (NEIRA) with their Innovator Award on October 30th at the Samoset Resort in Rockport, Maine, announced NEIRA CEO/President Beth Steucek. The prestigious award honors hospitality professionals who are creative thinkers and innovators and go beyond standard practice to improve overall hotel operations, increased guest satisfaction or loyalty and brand reputation.
“Rob is well known for his creativity and innovation in hospitality industry”, said Steucek, “Nominated by his peers for this award, and as a past Board Member of the Association, Rob has been a source of inspiration for hoteliers all over New England.”
During the award presentation Rob was described as a visionary who draws no true distinction between work and play, who is a master at the art of living, a maverick of mischief and an innovator in the purest form, Rob Blood is a storyteller in chief and founder of all things Lark.
Rob founded Lark Hotels in 2012 with a vision to rejuvenate the New England hospitality scene. Starting by injecting an updated sense of place with a focus on an unprescribed stay experience and genuine, friendly hospitality, he was fixated on creating a new way to explore that would resonate with modern travelers.
From the start, Rob has been focused on creating a highly unique experience that allows guests to feel a strong sense of place. For guests to be able to understand the neighborhood they’re visiting, be immersed in the culture around them rather than feeling like they could be anywhere in the world, is key. Lark’s mission is for the story of a property to lead the architecture, the design, and the soul. When developing hotels, the first order of business is to uncover what this story is; to identify the history of the building, the heartbeat of the neighborhood, and the needs and wants of the market. Then, with all that information at hand, the architectural drawings, the design process, the collection of finishes, the music choices, etc. begin flowing and all aspects are carefully woven into the individual brand identity, each tiny detail equally as important as the next.
Rob has created a hospitality experience for guests in New England and beyond that excite the senses. Through undivided attention to thoughtful design, lighting, music, the touch and feel of the linens, to the taste of the curated small plate breakfast, and the smell of the bath amenities, each and every aspect of the guest experience is carefully thought-out and delivered to guests as just a basis to their “no rules” experience.
Each hotel stands on its own, and it’s especially important that each offers something that others do not. Like their collection of hotels, Rob refuses to be pigeon-holed into just one thing. He’s turned the economics of running small inns on their head and has proven it works time and again. He has created “pretty” and he has created “gritty,” yet all with a very obvious nod to the place and the feel. Before the term "experiential hospitality" was a buzzword, Lark was doing it.
With 24 Lark branded properties, 22 of which are in New England, the stories are endless, and Rob is always searching for those that deserve to be told. An adventurer and explorer at heart, Rob is always up to go on his next Lark.
