The Inflight Food Trip. One of the world's first airline food documentary series has been released on Amazon Prime.
Nik Loukas, the man behind the famed @inflightfeed Instagram account, came up with the idea to create a series of short stories about airline food back in 2015. After some research he teamed up with James Mellor from Rainbow Trout Films; together they created Inflight Food Films.
They first travelled to Riga and Tokyo spending time with Air Baltic and Scandinavian airline SAS back in 2016. Their crowdsourcing campaign on Indiegogo was successful, and the filming took place over the next two years, circumnavigating the globe with several airlines.
“The filming was a challenge because we often found ourselves with limited time at airports, boarding flights and getting all the footage we needed. I love the fact that we cover a variety of airlines from around the world” says James from Rainbow Trout Films.
“I was shocked when we raised funds, and couldn't believe we were given this opportunity thanks to our backers” states Nik.
The documentary follows Nik around the globe, as he visits airlines and inflight caterers to get the back story on how airline food is created. Together with James, they visited Paris, Vienna, Athens, Riga, New York, Guangzhou, Istanbul and Tokyo. Filming took place between December 2016 and finished in July of 2017. James then went on to film with Professors, Educators and Specialists within the aviation field. Post-production was then completed in Halifax, the UK in December 2019.
