HUNT FOR NEWEST NORTHERN LIGHTS PHENOMENON THIS MARCH, SAY EXPERTS AT THE AURORA ZONE
Industry: Activity Breaks

This week, the discovery of a new type of Northern Lights display was revealed thanks to a collaboration between physicists and amateur stargazers, in which a collection of photos taken across Finland was analysed to show a new form, known as ‘The Dunes’ due to their appearance.

(TRAVPR.COM) UNITED KINGDOM - January 31st, 2020 - The phenomenon is suspected to be an example of a ‘mesospheric bore’, created when waves of oxygen atoms are excited by interactions with solar wind, producing magical glowing, dune-like effects.

Alistair McLean, Founder and Managing Director of the original Northern Lights holiday specialist, The Aurora Zone, says:

“The Northern Lights have fascinated humankind for millennia, and this new discovery reemphasises exactly why they are truly Mother Nature’s greatest spectacle.

“Having worked closely with scientists, local guides and experts over many years, we’ve experienced the Aurora in its many forms; be it swirls, clouds, billowing curtains or arrow-like shafts plummeting earthwards fast enough to cause watchers to involuntarily cower, no two displays are ever the same.

“This new discovery is an exciting reminder of how unique and unpredictable this celestial light show can be, and why it continues to fascinate and inspire people to seek it out.”

The Aurora Zone says that those hoping to catch a glimpse of the newly discovered Auroral form can expect an increased likelihood during the weeks surrounding the spring equinox (20 March), when scientific research has proven that geomagnetic activity is generally at its highest.

Its Eco-Glamping and Aurora Horse Riding holiday in Torassieppi, Finnish Lapland, includes an array of Northern Lights hunting activities, such as a campfire under the stars, a reindeer-pulled sleigh ride and horse riding through the Arctic wilderness. There is also the chance to try the new Arctic Elements Lakeside Spa and to spend a night in an Aurora Dome, complete with a see-through wall for guests to look out for the Northern Lights while tucked up in bed.

The cost is from £1,465 pp (two sharing), including flights (London), five nights’ full board, guided activities and cold weather clothing. Departures until 29 March 2020.
