HAIKU THROUGH CORONAVIRUS: RIVER CRUISE COMPANY FIND NOVEL WAY TO EXPRESS THEIR EMOTIONS ON WORKING FROM HOME
Industry: Cruise
Rainforest Cruises

Employees at the online travel agency Rainforest Cruises have come up with a poetic way to express themselves and shed insight on working from home in the travel industry during the lockdown restrictions associated with coronavirus.

(TRAVPR.COM) UNITED STATES - April 27th, 2020

Rainforest Cruises, a Florida-based online travel agency who specialize in river cruises in exotic destinations in South America and Southeast Asia, today revealed an unusual way in which their team have been expressing their emotions and sharing their thoughts on working from home during the self-isolation regulations put in place as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The team each prepared a haiku, a popular form of Japanese poetry that became popular in the 17th century, consisting of only 17 syllables, arranged in three lines of 5, 7, and 5 syllables respectively. Haikus typically evoke allusions of the seasons and the ephemeral beauty of nature, but in this instance some artistic license was granted on the subject matter.

Owner Jeremy Clubb explained the inspiration behind the idea: “I heard about the upcoming National Haiku Poetry Day on April 17th and happened to be preparing an agenda for a team meeting that day. I immediately thought that a haiku would be a great way for us all to let our minds escape a little and express what we’ve been going through in a concise manner, perfect for a team meeting format.”

He went on to encourage others to give it a try. “The exercise was surprisingly therapeutic, not to mention fun. Creativity and laughter have been proven to reduce anxiety and stress, and our haiku writing certainly did that. We hope that by sharing our experience and haikus, we may put a smile on someone’s face and potentially bring some comfort to others whose own feelings are echoed by our ‘poetry’. I highly recommend others give it a go, no matter what industry they work in. It’s a great thing to do with colleagues or even your friends and family.”

Others are encouraged to use the hashtag #HaikuThroughCoronavirus when sharing their efforts on social media.
