Museo Casa Manzanero opens in the state of Yucatán

New museum dedicated to the life and career of internationally renowned, iconic Yucatecan singer-songwriter Armando Manzanero opens in state capital Mérida.

(TRAVPR.COM) MEXICO - December 17th, 2020 - The Museo Casa Manzanero opened its doors to visitors in Merida last week, paying homage to Yucatecan music prodigy Armando Manzanero and providing fans the chance to learn about much of his career, his collaborations with international singers and photographs, furniture and personal artifacts belonging to the famed singer-songwriter.

Born in Yucatán in 1935, Manzanero is a master of romantic music and has penned classic boleros such as "Contigo Aprendí," Mía," "Adoro" and "Esta Tarde Vi Llover." His songs have been translated into several languages and have been performed by great U.S. artists such as Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley. Manzanero worked for Hollywood in the musical production of “No Sé Tú,” the Spanish version of the film “Speechless,” according to Billboard magazine.

Construction of the museum started in 2018, when a life-sized sculpture of the artist was unveiled.

This space will be complemented with a new tour route operated by Turibus de Mobility ADO. A cultural corridor to be called "Tour de la Nostalgia," the tour will take participants through childhood places and great anecdotes that shaped part of the life of Manzanero, who remains the pride and joy of not only his native Yucatán but all of Mexico.

The museum is located at Paseo 60, a cultural and commercial edifice in downtown Mérida. The $9 million facility also hosts some of the best restaurants in Yucatán, a first-class hotel, couture shops, business offices, a handicraft market and a presentation space. The building is decorated with details of the former henequen-based culture that once lent Yucatán global economic prominence.

Participating in the opening ceremony of the museum were Mexico’s Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Torruco Marqués, and Yucatán Gov. Mauricio Vila Dosal, accompanied by state tourism minister Michelle Fridman, Yucatecan businesspeople and friends of the artistic milieu, the singer-songwriter and teacher Armando Manzanero cut the ribbon to open the space.

Yucatán is known internationally for a vast tourist offer that not only includes a unique local gastronomy, ancient Mayan archeology and a heritage of cultural cross-pollination dating to the colonial era but also its birthright as the cradle of great troubadour artists. “The Casa Manzanero Museum exhibits a cultural awareness in honor of the great legacy of Maestro Armando Manzanero, embracing the visitor in an unprecedented educational experience and multisensory-emotional exploration,” said Minister Fridman. “It is a trend of avant-garde museology, an essential tourist landmark and a proposal for innovation, modernity and technology that is experienced in Mérida.”
