The French Country House (www.thefrenchcountryhouse.com) has established itself as specialists in painting holidays to the hidden area of South West France.

The hidden area of the Charente Maritime is a fantastic, diverse new location for painting holidays as it offers an incredible range of scenery from the rolling Cognac hills bursting with grapevines, Cognac houses and Chateaux to quiet and pretty beaches and harbours, chic islands, quaint historic villages along the estuary and of course the dramatic views of the wild and wonderful Atlantic coast.

Charentaise cottages surrounded by vineyards and fields of sunflowers are the perfect backdrop for a 6 day Painting holiday. Tuition at local places of interest is combined with relaxation by the pool and sociable meal times. There are daily painting excursions including trips to the towns of  Saintes, Port D’Envaux, Mornac sur Seudre  and  La Rochelle for a sketching session at the public garden “The Jardin des Plantes”.

Glyn Morris, a mixed media artist and co-director of The French Country House adds:

“We have teamed up with some of the most talented painting tutors to host our painting holidays in France. David Johnson, tutor for the Charente Maritime holiday is an international prize-winning Artist. He has been teaching art Classes, providing painting demonstrations and running painting workshops throughout the UK and Europe for over 10 years.  

David has been a finalist and published in the ‘International Artist’ and the  “Artists’ and Illustrators’ magazine”.  He has had his work on show in the Mall Galleries in London and as if that wasn’t enough David is also a thoroughly nice guy and lots of laughs too.”

Groups are always small, with a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 12.   The added bonus is that non painters are going to experience the very best of the Charente Maritime too.  While their partners are off painting they can enjoy trips to the Ile de Re, wine tasting, birdwatching along the estuary or maybe a cookery or an intensive French class.  This course will suit both beginners and those with more experience who wish to explore and expand their drawing and painting techniques.

About The French Country House – Mixed Media artist Glyn Morris has lived in Charente Maritime for 6 years. Glyn and her husband Alan have been restoring a typical Charentaise farmhouse with cottages.   They have a passion for art and antiques and can organise trips to local brocantes and flea markets during the stay.
