LONDON ALL SET FOR A SUMMER OF HORSE PLAY

Four major polo and equestrian events to take place in the capital in less than a month

(TRAVPR.COM) UK - May 7th, 2013 - The legacy of the London 2012 Olympic equestrian events will be cemented with a flurry of horsey events taking place all over the capital this summer - including two polo events at The O2 Arena and Hurlingham Park, the world's leading Show Jumping championships at Stratford City and the annual Royal Windsor Horse Show.

Celebrating its 70th anniversary, the Royal Windsor Horse Show runs from Wednesday 8th May to Sunday 12th May and is expected to attract over 40,000 visitors to the Queen's Windsor residence and its stunning surrounding parkland. This year marks a record number of entries for the show - with more than 4,000 individual entries to encompass Show Jumping, Driving, Dressage and Endurance. In total there are 174 classes of events taking place in three arenas during the five-day event. Notable Show Jumping entries this year include three of the four British Olympic Team Jumping gold medallists from London 2012 - Ben Maher, Nick Skelton and Peter Charles.

The fourth member of the Britain's victorious Team Jumping quartet, Scott Brash, will join Maher and Skelton in the second Show Jumping event of London's summer, as the prestigious Global Champions Tour comes to the capital for its first ever visit. The international equestrian event takes place from Thursday 6th June until Sunday 9th June at The International Quarter, a new multi-purpose space adjacent to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park at Stratford City. Both these heavyweight Show Jumping events are previewed on LondonTown.com's extensive selection of London 2013 events.

Two major polo events take place in the same time frame, with MINT Polo in the Park returning to Hurlingham Park for a fifth year and the Gaucho International Polo back at The O2 Arena for a third year. Taking place on the evening of Tuesday 21st May, the Gaucho event sees Scotland take on Mexico before a headlining clash between England and Argentina. With just three players per team, Arena Polo is to traditional polo what Twenty20 cricket is to a Test Match - with spectators treated to a faster and more accessible spectacle, complete with a festival of "electrotango" music and complimentary wine tasting.

Taking place over the same weekend as the Global Champions Tour but at the opposite end of London, Polo in the Park (Friday 7th June to Sunday 9th June) is quickly becoming one of West London's favourite outdoor summer events. Like the Gaucho event, Polo in the Park showcases the simpler three-a-side format of the game - and has proved a huge success with Fulham's red trouser brigade. Teams from London, Buenos Aires, Abu Dhabi, Sydney, Beijing and Moscow play two days of heats before a final day of finals as well-heeled fans watch from the stands chinking glasses of Champagne and Pimm's from the Mahiki Bar. A fun family day out is topped with afternoon tea, a luxury shopping village and gourmet food stands.

It's fair to say, there will be a fair amount of horsing around in London as the summer outdoor season gets off to a neighing start. Visit LondonTown.com for a wide range of London events this summer.
