Alan Bird's new restaurant opens next week, reports LondonTown.com
(TRAVPR.COM) UK - May 8th, 2013 - Having worked at London's notorious hotspot The Ivy for more than fifteen years, Chef Alan Bird is now branching out with his new restaurant, Bird of Smithfield. Open on the 8th May 2013, the venue is set over a five floor Georgian town house and is a much anticipated addition to the London restaurants scene.
Incorporating a restaurant, lounge bar, late-night basement cocktail bar, private dining room with a chef's table and a roof terrace overlooking the towers of Smithfield Market, it's an indoor adult playground for London foodies and cocktails lovers alike.
The team behind Bird includes Steve Collins, Georgia Muir and Sian Austin, all of whom have previously worked with the Conran family - the latter two at Tom's Notting Hill eateries. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the restaurant is dressed with Harris Tweed and herringbone fabrics, giving the feel of a private members club. After making shepherd's pie a cult classic at The Ivy, Bird will now present a menu of British cuisine with a twist, exploring the influence that British food has had, both historically and presently here and abroad.
Once fed, Londoners can forgo the taxi ride and head to the intimate lounge bar or downstairs to the basement bar, named The Birdcage. With cocktails overseen by Fluid Movement (Purl, Worship St Whistling Shop and Dach & Sons), including an intoxicating absinthe frappe, and DJs and live music until the early hours of the morning, it's ideal for post-dinner antics. Or, if the sun continues to grace London with its presence, the rooftop bar serves a potent bourbon, vodka and tequila cocktail that's bottled and served fizzy.
