Afternoon Tea in London takes inspiration from tennis and The Queen’s 60 years
(TRAVPR.COM) UK - June 13th, 2013 - In April 2013, The Goring was awarded The 2013 Top London Afternoon Tea Award from the UK Tea Guild, one of the highest accolades in the industry, and in June and July 2013 The Goring’s chefs present the Coronation Afternoon Tea to mark the 60th anniversary of The Queen’s Coronation.
The Goring is one of the top hotels in London, includingThe Ritz and The Savoy, who offer a traditional Afternoon Tea – reviving a great British custom started by the Duchess of Bedford in the early 1800s – and at a fraction of the cost of staying in one of their luxury rooms.
Book in for The Goring’s Coronation Afternoon Tea in London and you’ll get an Early Grey Tea Macaroon with chocolate modelled on the Queen’s crown, Eton Mess, and Coronation Chicken as one of the sandwich fillings. A stylish way to celebrate the Queen’s 60 years.
Fortnum & Mason renamed its restaurant The Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon in honour of the Queen’s 60-year reign and it was opened in 2012 by the Queen herself. Recently awarded The Tea Guild Award of Excellence for 2013, The Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon has a choice of no fewer than seventy-nine teas – Indian, China or English – served with finger sandwiches filled with cucumber and mint butter, scones with Somerset clotted cream and preserve, and a selection of tea cakes from the Coronation Cake Carriage.
To tie in with the world famous tennis tournament, The Dorchester in London’s Park Lane is offering a special Wimbledon Afternoon Tea, from Saturday 22nd June to Friday 7th July 2013, with tennis inspired cakes and pastries, and strawberries and cream served for the duration of Wimbledon fortnight.
The Harvey Nichols managed OXO Tower Brasserie, whose ‘Not Afternoon Tea at the Oxo Tower’ offers an eccentric alternative to the traditional afternoon tea, are also putting on a Wimbledon special. The ‘Wimbledon Not Afternoon Tea’ will be a best of British affair, but with the promise that there won’t be a scone in sight.
