The Golden Hinde, a replica of Sir Francis Drake’s famous flagship in London, will be hosting a special event to commemorate 4th July reports LondonTown.com
(TRAVPR.COM) UK - June 24th, 2013 - London’s Golden Hinde floating museum, a meticulous replica of Sir Francis Drake’s 16th-century flagship, will be holding a special event on 5th July to celebrate the ship’s special relationship with America. The Golden Hinde is located on the Southbank near Waterloo station. Visitors to London hoping to take advantage of the Golden Hinde and the Southbank’s many other attractions, from the London Eye and London Aquarium to the cultural hub that is the Southbank Centre, should check out LondonTown.com, where they will find details for numerous hotels near Waterloo, all offering great residents for tourists.
The Golden Hinde is a diligent replica of the boat Drake used to sail around the world in 1579-1580 – only the second time a successful circumnavigation of the globe was completed. After completing the circuit and returning to England, Drake was knighted by Queen Elizabeth aboard the ship at Deptford. The Golden Hinde was also active in Drake’s operations against the Spanish Navy in the Caribbean, which made him a hero to the English and a pirate to the Spanish.
The Golden Hinde is open for daily tours and also holds special events allowing participants to dress as Tudor sailors, eat Tudor food and learn the skills required by Elizabethan sailors. In 2013, the Golden Hinde celebrates its 40th birthday with a special exhibition displaying information about the elaborate reconstruction of this magnificent vessel and including the special event on 5th July, to mark Independence Day in the United States, with performances in the evening from 7pm of American folk music by The Umbrellabirds, The Nameless Three and The Plankwalkers.
The Golden HInde is one of many attractions located in this part of London alongside the River Thames and details of them all can be found at LondonTown.com, London’s premier site for tourists and visitors to the capital. Boat lovers in particular are well served, as a short walk from the Golden Hinde is another of London’s floating museums, HMS Belfast, an enormous Second World War gunship that was built in 1938 and now serves as a museum looking at the history of the British Navy in the Second World War.
