There's something for everyone in the capital, reports LondonTown.com

(TRAVPR.COM) UK - August 1st, 2013 - School's out for the summer and with that comes the beginning of Kids Week 2013, which, despite the name, is in fact a month-long event. First conjured up over a decade ago, the concept is one that encourages families to enjoy the magic of London's Theatreland with many West End shows inviting under 16s to go for free. An adult simply needs to pay the full price and then another two children can go half price. Shows included in this year's line-up include The Lion King, Matilda the Musical, The Sound of Music and Wicked.

A further child-friendly event taking place this weekend is Horrible Histories: Spies at the partially reopened IWM (Imperial War Museums) London. Based on the popular children's book series by Terry Deary, the display will immerse visitors into the world of World War Two espionage, including codes and ciphers, disguises, camouflage, forgeries and gadgets. For families travelling from further afield, lots of central London hotels can be found on LondonTown.com.

London's Battersea Power Station will be engulfed in a colourful cloud on Saturday for the Holi One Festival. Taking inspiration from the traditional Hindu festival, which is held in March for the welcoming of spring, Holi One invites revellers to dress in white, throw coloured powder at one another and dance the day and night away. With the colours festival concept fast progressing worldwide, London also hosts another version, the Holi Colour of Festival, next week.

The Museum of London marks the 90th anniversary of the Radio Times this summer with Cover Story: Radio Times at 90. Opening on Friday 2nd August, the free exhibition uses original covers of the magazine, historic broadcasts and never-before-seen BBC archives to tell the story of British broadcasting and the development from the BBC's first radio transmission in London to today's generous multi-channel supply. Highlights of the exhibition include a 1920s Marconi valve radio and a 50th anniversary display for Doctor Who, which has been a regular in the Radio Times since 1964 and has been given more front covers than even the Queen.

There's a lot of sporting action in the capital this weekend. Embracing the cycling legacy created by the London 2012 Olympics, RideLondon sees a number of events take place across Saturday and Sunday: RideLondon FreeCycle, RideLondon Grand Prix, RideLondon 100 and RideLondon Classic. Additionally, Glorious Goodwood, the horse race which Edward VII famously described as 'a garden party with racing tacked on', comes to an end on Saturday. For a more relaxed sporting occasion head to Canary Wharf or Soho, where there will be a number of ping pong tables as part of Ping!, a new initiative which brings ping pong to the people with tables set up across the UK.

Round three of the British Craft Beer Challenge takes at The Brewhouse, London Fields Brewery on Saturday and this times it's Great Britain vs Europe. Pints vs the 500ml, it will be up to you, the discerning beer drinker, to sample the goods and cast your vote. As well as the nail biting contest, the day also welcomes fine street food and live music.

The following day, east London will be taken over by bargain hunters at the first-ever Hackney Craft and Jumble Sale Trail. Taking inspiration from American yard sales, the day invites Hackney residents to set up stalls in their front gardens and sell their forgotten treasures. Shoppers will be provided with a map of stalls taking part and will be able to rummage through vintage clothes and furniture, and purchase homemade marshmallows.
