Sheridan Smith and David Walliams star in Shakespeare's comedy

(TRAVPR.COM) UK - August 21st, 2013 - A limited number of £10 day seats will be released at 10.30am on the day of each performance when Sheridan Smith and David Walliams star in Michael Grandage’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ at London’s Noel Coward Theatre, from 7th September to 16th November 2013. Theatre goers who are lucky enough to secure tickets can choose from a wide choice of cheap hotels in London near to the theatre in Covent Garden.

This revival of Shakespeare’s popular comedy is the fourth of five plays in the Michael Grandage season – for which 100,000 £10 tickets are available.

Though first known for her television appearances in ‘Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps’, and ‘Gavin & Stacey’, Sheridan Smith has established a successful stage career winning two highly coveted Olivier Awards. In 2011 she scooped Best Actress in a Musical for her performance as Elle Woods in ‘Legally Blonde’ at the Savoy. And last year Sheridan won the Best Performance in a Supporting Role Award for her performance in ‘Flare Path’. Most recently she took the title role of ‘Hedda Gabbler’ at London’s Old Vic Theatre.

Little Britain star David Walliams makes his West End debut playing the role of Bottom. They are joined by Susannah Fielding (Trelawny of the Wells) and Katherine Kingsley (Singin’ in the Rain) as love rivals Hermia and Helena.

Shakespeare’s well-known comedy has three intertwining plots, connected by the wedding of Duke Theseus of Athens and the Amazon queen, Hippolyta. It tells the story of four young Athenian lovers, Lysander, Demetrius, Helena and Hermia, and a group of amateur actors, who are manipulated by the fairies who inhabit the forest in which the play is set.

The production, the fourth play in Grandage’s starry West End season at the Noel Coward Theatre, follows ‘Privates on Parade’, ‘Peter and Alice’ and ‘The Cripple of Inishmaan’. ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ is the first of two Shakespeare productions in the current Grandage season and will be followed by the fifth and final play of the season, ‘Henry V’ starring Jude Law which runs at the Noel Coward Theatre from 23rd November 2013 until 15th February 2014.

Shakespeare’s enduring appeal is very apparent in London this September as ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ opens at the Noel Coward Theatre on the same night as Mark Rylance’s production of ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ at the Old Vic Theatre, on 7th September 2013.
