A South Kensington boutique hotel launches a book club, reports LondonTown.com
(TRAVPR.COM) UK - September 18th, 2013 - This autumn the Ampersand Hotel in South Kensington is encouraging Londoners to forget digital reading and instead embrace the printed word by launching a book club. With library numbers dwindling and the demise of printed publications inescapable, the hotel is determined to champion the humble book by hosting a series of author events in the hotel's very own library. In partnership with The Girly Book Club, they also promise something a little bit extra with the accompaniment of bespoke cocktails.
Located on the lower ground floor of the boutique hotel, the library is a relaxing space that's used to store the hotel's specially curated collection of books. With emerald green armchairs, warming rugs and wooden book shelves, it's the ideal place to dwindle away an afternoon. Booking a room at the Ampersand Hotel can be done through LondonTown.com, where a great selection of other London hotels can also be found.
The first book club takes place on Monday 7th October and welcomes author Anne Zouroudi to showcase her murder mystery The Feast of Armetis, which takes a bitter journey through Greece's olive groves and uncovers a dark world of murder and sin. Taking inspiration from the book's setting and transporting guests from London to Greece, the evening's cocktail will be a Dirty Martini with a Mediterranean twist, combing Metaxa, olive juice, Gin Mare and rosemary.
On Monday 4th November the spotlight will focus on Rosa Rankin-Gee when she offers an exclusive preview of her debut novel, The Last Kings of Sark which is due for release on 7th November. The dark yet funny novel tells the story of love, only children and missed opportunities. Once again taking inspiration from the book's setting, the choice of cocktail for the evening will be La Coupe, a heady concoction of vodka, apple cider, absinthe and lemon juice.
