The London Film Festival returns for its 57th year this week, attracting Hollywood players and Indie filmmakers with its impressive programme of world premieres and gala films at the BFI Southbank and selected cinemas across London. Films being screened this weekend include Shame, a story of women who wait for their submariner husbands; All Cheerleaders Die, a gang of cheerleaders embark on a supernatural path of vengeance; and Honey, a drama about a woman with a false life that conceals her real work in assisted euthanasia.
Sunday sees the launch of the inaugural London Festival of Cabaret, a month-long festival taking place at various venues including The Crazy Coqs, The Pheasantry, Soho Theatre and St James Theatre. Well known acts appearing at the festival include Alexander Armstrong, who makes his cabaret debut; Michael Feinstein, joined by Elaine Page and Julian Ovenden at the Palace Theatre; and musical star Janie Dee.
London Cocktail Week draws to a close on Sunday but there's still a whole host of events taking place across the weekend, including the UK RumFest at ExCel, a Bloody Mary Garden at the Bartenders Lounge and a Monin Madhatter's Tea at The Arts Theatre.
Further event highlights this Saturday and Sunday include the Classic Car Boot Sale and Cheese and Wine Festival at the Southbank Centre; The Portrait in Vienna exhibition at the National Gallery, looking at the flourish of modern art in Vienna during its time as the capital of Austria-Hungary; and the Coney Island Party at Bethnal Green Working Men's Club, part club night, part freakshow.
