The Natural History Museum will soon be showing an exciting new exhibition showing a million years of humanity
(TRAVPR.COM) UK - January 22nd, 2014 - Visitors to London in 2014 will have the chance to see Britons as they have never seen them before thanks to a major new exhibition at the Natural History Museum. Britain: One Million Years Of The Human Story is one of many London events and exhibitions that are listed on LondonTown.com, London’s best and most reliable website for visitors to the city hoping for the latest information on London events, exhibitions, hotels, restaurants, shops and galleries.
Britain: One Million Years Of The Human Story opens on 13th February and runs until 28th September 2014 at the Natural History Museum in South Kensington. It will trace the changing faces and landscapes of Britain, drawing on more than 10 years of research by a large network of scientists, led by the Natural History Museum. From hippos that swam in the Thames and the earliest Neanderthals in Europe, to intriguing ancient evidence of cannibalism, this exhibition brings together rare fossil specimens and artefacts to give the most complete picture of our past so far.
Highlights include new models of Neanderthal and Homo sapiens that are the most life-like and scientifically accurate ever made; stone tools that show ancient humans arrived in Britain around 900,000 years ago – 400,000 years earlier than first thought; a 400,000 year-old skull of what was most likely an early Neanderthal woman, found in Kent; skeletons from Gough’s Cave in Somerset that show evidence of cannibalism 14,700 years ago and a hippo tooth from Trafalgar Square.
