The latest in the London trend for ‘experimental’ high teas
(TRAVPR.COM) UK - March 12th, 2014 - From the Ritz to Claridges, London hotels are renowned for their traditional afternoon teas - and now some of the city’s finest hotels are giving a twist to the quintessentially British treat. The latest ‘experimental’ afternoon tea to appear in the capital, St Martins Lane Hotel has launched its Cuban Afternoon Tea, which fuses culinary inspiration from Asia and Cuba.
Teaming up with Shoreditch design collective Luna & Curious, St Martins Lane’s Asia de Cuba restaurant has been designed to recreate the feel and mystique of a teahouse in Havana. Cuban cigar boxes full of fine tea selections, a menu disguised as a newspaper and mismatched crockery help set the mood, while diners can enjoy specially crafted cocktails served alongside two-stage tea – sweet and savoury.
Quails eggs and chipotle, BBQ pulled pork, banana spring rolls and Caribbean vegetable empanadas offer an adventurous alternative to traditional teatime treats like cucumber sandwiches, while a selection of teas has been chosen to complement each course perfectly.
The Asia de Cuba restaurant at St Martins Lane is part of the Morgans Hotel Group which also brought the madcap Alice in Wonderland themed afternoon tea at the Sanderson to London. Their afternoon tea in London is served daily from 12.30pm – 4.30pm, and is priced at £25, or £35 with a cocktail.
To coincide with the launch of the latest afternoon tea in London, LondonTown.com is offering discounts on room rates at a selection of hotels in the St Martins Lane area. At just 3 minutes stroll away, visitors can currently enjoy a 43% saving on room rates at the Radisson Blu Edwardian Hampshire Hotel. The Thistle Trafalgar Square, in the heart of London, is also giving LondonTown.com customers a 55% discount, with double bed and breakfast rooms available from £130 per night.
